We have a diverse funding portfolio of long and short term investments in the field that ensure contraceptive development of all kinds of contraceptives. Some of our focuses are in getting products to market, moonshot projects, and early career support for young investigators.
Discovery and Development
These awards support pre-clinical research advancing towards first-in-man studies. |
Vas Occlusion Grants
Support of reversible vasectomy techniques allows for a low-maintenance, long-acting contraceptive method. |
Seed Grants
These grants support exciting early stage research in previously unexplored areas – investing in the future. |

MCI Research Funding
We are pleased to announce our funding opportunities for 2020: The David Sokal Innovation Awards and Discovery & Development Awards.
The David Sokal Innovation Awards (maximum of $150,000 for a period of two years) support projects at early stages of contraceptive discovery or projects focusing on the social science of male contraceptives. The Discovery and Development Awards (maximum of $300,000 for a period of two years) support research projects focused on active contraceptive development.
Applications are currently under review. Winners will be announced in late 2020.

Travel and Professional Development Grants
Our travel grants program allows trainees to attend meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with consideration for applicant strength and available funds.

Trainee Fellowships
MCI supports a fellowship program for graduate students and postdoctoral trainees working with senior investigators to develop new male contraceptives.

The Beverly Tucker Award
MCI’s inaugural Tucker Award provides up to $5,000 to support a student or professional residing outside of the United States to travel internationally for the purposes of career development.

External Funding Opportunities
Agencies in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are promoting Next Generation Multipurpose Prevention Technologies (NGM) in a funding announcement offering up to five years of funding for multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) that offer protection against pregnancy and other indications such as HIV and sexually transmitted infections. Applications are ongoing, with due dates in May of 2020 and 2021.
The National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is offering funding towards a contraceptive research center that facilitates development of new male and female contraceptives, as well as behavioral and social science research. Letters of intent are due in December 2020.
