Male contraception is an underfunded, and therefore under-investigated, area of scientific enquiry.
This unfortunate reality means that many talented researchers interested in the field have opted to focus their work in other areas that have more stability with respect to funding. It is incumbent upon us to illustrate the viability of male contraceptive research. MCI seeks to provide support every step of a scientific researcher’s career in order to do just that. The sponsorships below allow individuals and organizations the opportunity to join us in that mission.
The Mitch Eddy Fellowship
Edward “Mitch” Eddy, PhD, has dedicated his career to investigating and understanding the human gamete, while advocating for an expanded contraception method mix to include male options. He is a founding member of MCI’s board and remains a trusted friend and colleague. This $10,000 sponsorship honors Dr. Eddy by providing aspiring scientists working in the male contraception field to participate in Frontiers in Reproduction (FIR), an intensive 6-week-long laboratory and lecture course for scientists-in-training seeking to improve their knowledge and skills in the Reproductive Sciences. Travel & Training Grants
Young researchers are often unable to take advantage of training and networking opportunities simply due to a lack of funds. MCI works to prevent this through a Travel & Training Grants program that provides financial support to qualified candidates throughout the year on a case-by-case basis. This $25,000 sponsorship provides MCI the flexibility to support aspiring scientists and professionals in developing the skills and contacts they need to be successful. Internships & Fellowships Program
Supporting the professional development of young researchers is a key mandate at MCI and is of strategic importance to the entire sector: future generations of researchers and product developers need to see male contraception as a viable field of study. Through this, the potential “brain drain” of talented researchers interested in male contraception but pursuing other, more well-funded areas of enquiry is addressed. This $15,000 sponsorship supports MCI’s efforts by creating additional opportunities for qualified students. Please find sponsorship details here.
